Firebird

I used to have a 1973 Firebird Formula 500. The speedometer went from 0 to 160 MPH with 80 being straight up. This was back in the 70’s when the speed limit was 55 MPH. It was nearly impossible to hold at 55; it cruised at 80, which it was designed to do. My Mom lost lots of sleep over me and that car.

The Measure of a Man

Some say the measure of a man is by how much wealth he accumulates or by the power that he has. Bill Gates or the President quickly comes to mind. Others say that fame makes a man, such as the likes of Elvis, The Beatles or Waylon and Willie.

The true measure of a man is not wealth, power or even fame. The true measure of a man is how much happiness he brings to life…….and if that is the case……………..……then Christopher Estes was a giant among men.

Rest in peace my brother…………

Revelation

Starting Sep 17, 2008 I'm studying the book of Revelation with a women's Bible study group. A neighbor lady down the street has adopted this old Texas gal. We had lunch today and discussed the Bible study. She asked me how I felt about Revelation and I told her I would study it, but I don't plan to be here when it all unfolds. We'll be out of here, I told her. She said reading it scares a lot of people. A toilet backing up scares me! I know what can happen if I'm not prepared to handle ...

Many years ago, in a far, far, away land know as Cisco Junior College, there was a prankster named Ham Bone who knew no good, only evil. Ham Bone secretly enter the women’s dorm and placed chunks of dry ice in each toilet(sneaky bas***d). The dry ice reacted with the warm water in the toilets and produced a fog that resembled smoke. Ham Bone waited in the parking lot pretending to work on his car as the young ladies returned from their evening meal. All of a sudden the dorm's front doors flew ...

I miss seeing horny toads, skunks, amadillos, prickly pear, mesquite trees, liveoaks, tumbleweeds, and jack rabbits. All I see here is corn and soy bean fields. Where are the windmills? I need to see a windmill! I miss seeing Fort Worth at night, the bright lights of Dallas as you go through on your way to Fort Worth, the tall buildings and single story houses. I miss the thrift stores. I don't miss the heat, the traffic, the millions of people...nevermind I'll stop complaining and go visit ...

Funniest Thing At The Reunion

Mom Reed and I walked... I know a mile down river at Bodes to use the bath room. We found a good secluded spot so we wouldn't be rear-ends in front of anyone. We were just fixing to squat down when this voice came from no-where ! " I wouldn't do that if I were ya'll !"

It was Rodney in the very top of a tree watching the nudies down river. We almost wet ourselves.

We have a fire bug. He has set the same trash dumpster on fire three times in the last week. Setting the same dumpster on fire is strange, but what is even more strange is why. It seems the Fire Bug's girl friend left him last week. To get even he takes her stuff to the dumpster near their appartement and then sets the dumpster ablaze. Not so strange you say? Here is where it really gets weird. He then goes to a local hotel where some locals have gathered to celebrate the birthday ...

Well it's that time of year again......time to go school clothes shoping, register for school, and the start of band camp. I have been out of school more years than I care to admit too, but every August I get that old feeling that I should be practicing music and making a list of pranks for the fall. Speaking of pranks there was this one time at band camp.....yes really (Cisco Jr. College) that I took a perfectly good record jacket (anybody less than 40 years old google it) and bowed ...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I had the greatest time ever! Love the new location, love the water, the big trees and especially love the people!
The 70's

The 70’s child, that’s what I was. The halter tops, hip hugger jeans, platform shoes and long wavy hair described my years in the 70’s. It was a time of turmoil, the recession, war, and bitter uncertainty. I wore beads, bandanas, and rebelled. It was also a time of great passion, love, and heartache. I had fun at the lake, wearing bikinis, rubbing on suntan lotion, and laying on beach towels. My tans were awesome. There were plenty of worries, plenty of strife. I was insecure, naïve, ...

I’m a collector. I collect Pekin ducks, the white ones formed in ceramic, wood, plastic, resin, etc. I have different sizes from miniature to life size, from babies to adults. They came from thrift stores, antique malls, hobby stores, garage sales, etc. Some are dirty, chipped, or cracked. I’ve dubbed it my Injured Duck collection. At one time or another I’ve picked them up from a store, cleaned them up and sat them on a shelf or table at home, to be admired. Ever so often I dust ...

What a wretched person I am! As I grow in my walk with Christ I’m realizing more and more what a wretched person I am. I hate sin. I hate it! Yet, I sin. My mouth flies open and out come words I would never speak in front of strangers and yet God hears them, the very one we all wish we could hide our imperfections from, right? My imaginations are bombarded by the impure and the improper and I find myself being sucked through the pipe to a story line of revenge, instead of forgiveness. ...

Everyone comes to a point in their life where they have to make a decision: either they keep going in the direction their life is headed, or change their mind and take a different road. I changed my mind and decided if I wanted to live I had to die. Until then I laid comatose, caught between life and death, a type of purgatory that keeps you caught in the spider’s web, until you’re either eaten, or you escape. We all walk a fine line between failure and success. Isn’t it wonderful that we’re ...

My cubicle had become a trap where I was cornered by crying, angry, or complaining coworkers. After mentioning God to several people they found other unfortunate ears to listen to their problems. I didn't mind listening to my coworkers at first. I was intriqued by the fact they had found me to be someone they could talk to, but after awhile, when things in their lives ...

Although George Carlin and I would never agree on religion or politics, I thought he was one of the funniest people that I have ever heard or read. He wrote 3 books; his last was entitled "Brain Dropings" and was so funny I laughed till I was sick and crying. Took me two weeks to read a book that was probably less than 150 pages. Anyway here are some of my favorite George Carlin Quotes.

When cheese gets it's picture taken, what does it say?

When someone asks you, A penny for your ...

Cousin Robyn tells me that drilling crews from her company (big dog drilling) are going to be featured on a TV show called Black Gold. The promo's for the show makes it out to be like Deadlist Catch or Ice Road Truckers. Sounds interesting. It will be on the Tru channel, I think it is channel 204 on Dish Network. The first episode airs next Wednesday night at 9 central time.

Krysta discovered that there was a head in the big gold box in the next room and it bothered her so she came running to me for an explanation. I picked Krysta up so that she could see that there was more than Aunt Wannie’s head in the casket.

I spoke softly and slowly so that my words would not be misunderstood. “Krysta that is your Great Great Aunt Wannie, she is a very nice ...

I’ve been resting up since Mom went into the nursing home. I believe what breath I had left, left. Funny how one thinks they will get the house clean, the laundry done, the woodwork polished…the moment someone leaves. I’ve been moping around, looking around, pacing back and forth to the room she once occupied…finally just plopping down and thinking, “God, I’m so tired! I don’t have her to take care of anymore, so why do I feel the “empty nest syndrome” inching into my life?”

“Oh, it’s ...

Hadn't done that since Amber and Rita were little. It was fun inspite of the fact that I weigh nearly 280 lb. There are no photos so don't get your hopes up. Krysta was completely embarrased by my performance and told me so. Kayleigh was thrilled and encouraged me to do it with her. We look at our past with new eyes and start thinking of it as the “good old days” when in reality, for some us, it may not have been all that good. You know me, Queen Mouth, I could sit here and talk and talk and talk about them.

One of my favorite memories is that Uncle Hairy (Uncle Gordon) always took me fishing. Nobody else wanted to hang out with the whinny, freckle faced, frizzy haired little kid. But Uncle Hairy did!

Thanks for that Uncle Hairy, I loved those moments and will always appreciate the love you showed me.

Love,

Robyn
