Jesus

Post by Kathy on Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:01 am

I’m a collector. I collect Pekin ducks, the white ones formed in ceramic, wood, plastic, resin, etc. I have different sizes from miniature to life size, from babies to adults. They came from thrift stores, antique malls, hobby stores, garage sales, etc. Some are dirty, chipped, or cracked. I’ve dubbed it my Injured Duck collection. At one time or another I’ve picked them up from a store, cleaned them up and sat them on a shelf or table at home, to be admired. Ever so often I dust them.

God is a collector. He collects humans. He picks us up from the streets, the bars, the crack houses, the churches, etc., cleans us, and takes us home. He doesn’t care if we have cuts and bruises from life’s ups and downs. He takes us as we are and heals us. Are you a part of His Injured Human collection? I hope so. If you’re not, please join us. It won’t cost you anything, but a change of mind and a repentant heart. Jesus Christ paid the price.

I use to think if I changed my mind and followed Jesus I’d drop dead the following day. Well I did. The old me did. It wasn’t a great loss. I’m at peace now. I wonder what I saw in sinning that had made it so exciting at the time. Looking at my collection and wiping the dust from my duck’s eyes, I know. I was spiritually blind and God wiped the sin from my eyes and they were opened.

Over a period of time ceramic ducks develop hairline cracks. It’s mainly from extreme heat and cold and from being washed over and over. I think it just adds to the character, the longer I keep them. There’s nothing you can do to restore them back to the way they were. Humans are the same way. There is something about a sweet, broken spirit that overcomes a stubborn, controlling, angry and defiant spirit. Once broken who would want to be restored to the way they were? It doesn’t mean we can’t be healed. Our scars remind us of our past and how we got here. The nail scared hands of Jesus are beautiful and remind us of the price he paid for us.

Ducks range in price, but Humans are one price only, the price Jesus paid.
